A caterpillar of the Cinnabar Moth. The bright colours tell any animal tempted to eat it that it may be poisonours. It is, it eats the poisonous weed, ragwort (see next picture) from which it absorbs poisonous alkaloids. More at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnabar_moth including photos of the adult moth.
